Immediate danger and platform policy
Perspect is not an emergency service. If an interaction indicates a credible, serious, imminent threat of harm to you or another person, the coach must follow Perspect’s safety procedure: contact appropriate emergency services or law enforcement when needed to protect life, seek your current location and a safe callback number when practicable, and notify the administrator without delaying emergency action. Share only information reasonably needed for that response. The platform does not automatically report messages or assess risk clinically.
What the law does and does not say
A mention of difficult feelings or thoughts is not automatically a police-reporting requirement. Under HIPAA, where applicable, §164.512(j) permits qualifying disclosures to people able to reduce a serious and imminent threat, consistent with law and ethics; it is not a blanket police-reporting mandate. Texas §611.004 provides specified disclosure permissions for qualifying professionals and circumstances, not a universal coaching duty to warn. Other legal duties may apply depending on the facts and jurisdiction.
Legally required abuse reports
Texas Family Code §261.101 requires immediate reports when a person has reasonable cause to believe a child’s health or welfare has been adversely affected by abuse or neglect. The statute has additional duties for defined professionals. Texas Human Resources Code §48.051 imposes reporting duties concerning abuse, neglect, or exploitation of protected older adults and adults with disabilities. Report to the legally designated authority; informing Perspect alone does not satisfy a personal duty. Follow applicable law outside Texas as well.
Notice and acknowledgment
Privacy and an optional sharing opt-out do not block a legally required report, valid compulsory legal process, or a lawful necessary emergency disclosure. The administrator records the reason, recipient, information disclosed, and time, and informs the member when lawful and safe. The coach must not promise absolute secrecy. If you need immediate help, call 911; for United States crisis support call or text 988. Do not wait for a portal response.
